The Borough of North Caldwell Police Department is committed to the pursuit of an ethos reflecting the highest degree of ethical, moral, and fairly applied law enforcement.

The Police Department shall Preserve the peace, protect life and property, detect, arrest and prosecute offenders of the laws of New Jersey and the ordinances of the Borough of North Caldwell, direct and control traffic, provide attendance and protection during emergencies, provide appearances in court, cooperate with all other law enforcement agencies, and, provide training for the efficiency of its members and employees (N.J.S.A. 40A:14-11b)

All residents should provide emergency contact information to the police department. It is mandatory under Borough Ordinance #22-6 that all alarm systems be registered with the police department. Resident Information and Alarm Forms are available from the Police Front Counter or email police@northcaldwell.org to request forms.

Attention all residents: in order to receive a call from our Emergency Notification System, it is imperative that we have an updated name and phone number. This system provides residents with urgent public messages. If you need to be added to the Emergency Notification System list, please click on Police Emergency Notification System. To receive email and text alerts please create an account with Nixle. Nixle is a communication service that the Police department utilizes to provide the community with up to date information. To learn more about nixle or to create an account, click on the nixle icon.

Borough Ordinance #99-6 prohibits parking on the roadway from 2am-6am. If there are extenuating circumstances and you must have a vehicle parked on the roadway overnight, call the police desk, 973-226-0800, to register your vehicle to avoid being ticketed.

and yield to pedestrians.

The North Caldwell Police Department is seeking PTC certified or PTC waiver eligible candidates to apply for the position of Police Officer.

Applications are available below for download or  maybe be picked up in person at the North Caldwell Police Department.

Candidates must fill out the application in its entirety and submit the application along with a resume, PTC certificate and any other pertinent police related certificates.

Candidate must have high school diplomas, Valid NJ Driver’s license, must pass an extensive background check, Medical exam, Physical exam and Psychological examination.

Starting salary and benefits are consistent with the PBA collective bargaining agreement.  2020 probation salary is $42,329

Applicants will be notified of date and time for future interview.

All Applications must be submitted by August 1st, 2020

** Initial Applications should be printed on 8.5 x 14 paper and returned to the North Caldwell Police Department upon completion**

 Firearms Unit 

NEW APPLICANT PROCESS FOR FIREARMS IDENTIFICATION CARD AND HANDGUN PURCHASER PERMITS

 

The NJ Firearms application process is now on an automated system called F.A.R.S. ( Firearms Application & Registration System) The system, which is web based MUST be completed from an internet device that has the ability to print the completed application and associated documents.

In order to start the process, click on the following link to begin: www.njportal.com/NJSP/fars.

The online application is user driven so please ensure that you have entered the accurate information that is required. This includes a phone number you can be reached at and an email address for your references.  Any inaccurate information will lead to a delay in your application process.

Please advise your references to complete the questionnaire as soon as possible. All applicants will receive email updates throughout the process. Once your application is approved, you will be contacted via email to pick up your paperwork. The North Caldwell Police Department WILL NO LONGER accept paper applications under any circumstances. Please do not contact the North Caldwell Police Department for a status check of your application, as updates will be sent to you via email.  Any other questions can be directed to Officer DePoe and Detective O’Neill at firearms@northcaldwell.org

 

A ORI # is needed to complete the application. Please ensure you have the correct ORI number entered. The North Caldwell Police Departments ORI # is NJ0071500. If you enter the wrong number your application will not be properly received.

The fee schedule is as follows:

Initial NJ Firearm ID Card - $5.00

NJ Permit to Purchase a handgun is $2.00 for each permit

Replacement ID card or change of address is – no charge

 

North Caldwell Police will accept payment via exact cash (no change available) or check made out to North Caldwell Police Department.
